Jazz Piano Lesson 24
Take Five

Jazz Lesson 24 Instructions
I have had many requests and/or questions on how to arrange
a jazz idea for "Take Five". It's fun to play and everyone
loves to hear this song.
As you can see, I wrote the arrangement in the key of C,
adding all the flats to the music. I did this to make the
music easier to read. 6 Flats is a tough key to play.
1. The left hand is easy to learn. Basically, open harmony
styling, spliting up the chord to form a rhythm.
2. I have analyzed the chord structure for you. The composer
moves from the minor Key, E Flat Aeolian,(natural minor)
to the major key E Flat.
As you can see, this is probably the only song that I haven't
reharmonized the chords. If you do not have a copy of this
song, you can purchase it online at Music Notes.
Improvisation:
In lesson 25, I am giving you the rules to comping chords.
We have been using them in prior songs, forming your hands
in certain positions, but in this lesson you will receive the
exact rules. In lesson 25, I will write out the comping chords
for "Take Five" and you can use them for improv.
